What is this role?


Our Through Care Team 2 works with Looked After Young People, Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children and Care Leavers to support them through to independence or reunification to their families. This is an exciting and privileged opportunity to support children and young people in their plans for permanence and to prepare them for adulthood.


The post holder will be responsible for support young people age 18 to 25 to develop their independent living skills. This will include supporting them to access Employment, Education or Training. They will support young people emotionally and practically to move into and maintain a tenancy. They will support young people to develop /or strengthening all the skills necessary for independent living.

  • Be an excellent communicator who is equally comfortable speaking with children and other professionals from external partners and agencies.
  • Have excellent literacy and numeracy skills. Be clear and accurate in written work, reports and present evidence in a clear and concise way.
  • Be someone who enjoys a busy atmosphere who can cope with competing demands and the stresses that comes with them. Be someone who is able to organise their own time and is willing to travel.
  • Be motivated to achieve good outcomes for children. Be curious.
  • Be a person who wants to be part of the team and actively encourages inter team support.
  • Be computer literate, comfortable using MS word, and able to use Excel to create and maintain databases.
  • Have skills in tact and diplomacy, be someone who is able to empathise with service users.
  • Be able to consolidate learning in to working practice. Be reflective and resilient in their practice.
  • Preferable to be educated to degree level, but if not evidence of post 18 training or development.
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality.
  • Have knowledge and an understanding of working with challenging young people with a spectrum of needs and abilities.
