Key Worker (Grade 07

Salary £12.33 - £14.83 per hour
The post holder will be:

  • responsible to the Senior Key Worker who is in turn responsible for the post holder’s health and safety, training and development.
  • expected to work on the ESF project and build relationships with both internal and external partners in order to achieve specified outcomes but will not have direct authority over those involved.  Working across Shropshire or Telford and Wrekin

4. Main Duties


The post holder will:

  • be able to communicate effectively with our customers on a one-to-one basis, many of whom have significant barriers to employment, education and training.  Must be able to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer service.
  • be able to deliver agreed provisions and services peripatetically across Shropshire or Telford and Wrekin.
  • conduct one-to-one interviews and Initial Assessments. Responsible for inducting customers onto provision and developing Vocational Plans, which will include:
  • Job outcomes
  • Qualification / achievement
  • Milestones
  • Outcome Star
  • Motivational Interviews
  • be responsible for giving continuous advice, guidance and support to ensure participants retention and achievement.
  • ability to contact employers to encourage them to offer vacancies/work experience placements and monitoring placements to ensure compliance with our Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding and Sustainability Procedures.
  • be responsible for regularly reviewing customers progress against the Individual Vocational Plan to ensure targets are met.  Where targets are not being met, or progress towards achieving them is slower than anticipated, the reasons for this are identified and addressed.
  • be confident in marketing customers to local employers and preparing them for interview.
  • facilitate and support customers individually with their search for work, education or training activities.
  • be flexible in their approach and be prepared to cover for colleagues during planned and unplanned absences to ensure continuity of service provision across both areas of the Project Team.

  • undertake a range of tracking initiatives to capture all outcome and contract evidence requirements.

  • ensure that Shropshire Council explicit aims, policies, values and strategies for promoting equality are reflected in the post holder’s work.  To ensure that effective measures are taken with customers, and within Shropshire Council, to Enable as soon as possible, if there is any identification or breaches to equality of opportunity for the post holder, other staff members or customers.

  • ensure equality and diversity and sustainability policies are followed according to the implementation plan.  These are in line with ESF guidelines.

  • be responsible for quality systems in their areas of responsibility, and to ensure that all duties are carried out in accordance with the appropriate Quality and/or Contractual Procedures, and that appropriate records are kept to auditable standards.

  • ensure compliance with Shropshire Council’s Health and Safety policies, and organisational arrangements.  To ensure any accidents, near misses, bullying or harassment incidents are reported to the line manager and Health and Safety co-ordinator.  Appropriate reporting procedures are followed, and documentation completed and referred within stipulated timescales.

  • observe and practice the Directorate policy on Data Protection and Information Security

  • attend meetings and training workshops, to ensure that compliance with all our contractual obligations.

  • carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Line Manager.
