The core and focus of the IRO role is to ensure that timely and effective plans are made to meet the needs of
children and young people with regard to their care and protection and to ensure that their wishes and feelings are
taken account in planning and decision making as well as with regard to the development and improvement of
services.
The post holder will chair looked after children’s meetings and act as independent chairperson for child protection
conferences as well as undertaking more complex reviews of Foster Carers. A key function of the role is to drive
change and improve outcomes for children and young people through challenge and through recognising and
promoting effective practice.
The post holder will monitor the performance of the local authority in relation to the child’s case, ensuring the quality
and timeliness of assessments and plans are appropriate to the needs and wishes of the child and that the delivery
