The Education Welfare Officer is required to offer a quality provision to children, their families and schools. The post helps to meet the aim of the service which is to enable pupils to attend school so they can benefit from the educational opportunities available and support families to resolve any problems of non attendance.

Duties include:
regular contact with pastoral staff in schools for the purpose of individual referrals in relation to non-attendance at school;
work closely with schools in response to school attendance problems;
visit pupils homes to ascertain the reasons for non-attendance at school;
provide and encourage regular school attendance in a all discussions with pupils and parents;
maintain records of contact with pupils and their families using the electronic Child Support System bed at the LEA;
to attend court in relation to the prosecution for school non-attendacne; etc.
