Booking shifts, speaking to candidates and baking Victoria sponges. All in a day’s work for the Day Webster team last Wednesday as we hosted our very own Great Day Webster Bake Off (See what we did there) with the aim, to raise as much money as possible for a great cause.
It has always been in Day Webster’s values to go the extra mile, from taking part in the Cancer Research 72 Holes One Day golf event, to our most recent sponsoring of Family United’s Free BBQ event supporting families in need at Burgess park. It is our aim is to show the same dedication and compassion to those in need, that our candidates do each day in their lines of work.
The Charity and our future fundraising
This year we wanted to take it a step further, creating our own Day Webster Charity Committee (below) with the focus on planning a variety of fundraising events all in support of our chosen charity, Mind. As the leading mental health charity in England and Wales, Mind believes that no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. They are there for anybody experiencing a mental health problem, in their community, on the end of a phone or online. Whether somebody is stressed, depressed or in a crisis, Mind are there to listen and offer support. By supporting Mind, we are helping them on their mission to get support and respect for everyone experiencing mental health problems.
First stop in our fundraising efforts was The Great Day Webster Bake Off. Swapping the tent with a boardroom, our staff baked over 20 cakes of all shapes, sizes (and dare I say standards) ready to be judged by our lucky raffle winners (below). Our cake connoisseurs marked on appearance, taste and execution with every fine detail carefully observed, channelling their inner Prue, ensuring no soggy bottoms were in sight!
Once the ‘Star Baker’ was announced, the free for all began, with summer diets out the window and chocolate stained shirts the new trend the baked goods went out like…well…hotcakes. Each slice bought by our sweet toothed staff was another contribution to a great charity, swapping out the vending machine for home baked goodness, it is safe to say many went home with empty wallets.
With voting closed, and SMS votes still being charged (T&C’s apply), the ultimate winner and crowned Day Webster Star Baker was the dynamic duo of Chantelle Ciffeli and Louisa Harris with their culinary masterpiece of chocolatey heaven. Enough to give Paul Hollywood a run for his money the cake showed the great efforts staff put in to raise as much money as possible, with their piece de resistance a homemade stand reminding us what the cakey feast was all for (See below).
Day Webster are pleased to announce we raised £441.70 for Mind Charity and look forward to our next fundraiser. Stay tuned!
