The older people’s Mental Health team awarded a Cavell Star for their “fantastic” work

The Wallsall Healthcare team focuses on patients that suffer from complex needs as well as Dementia/Delirium and offers, mental health support and guidance throughout the trust. The mental Health Team consists of:
Lee Evans – Matron, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust
Noel Chigwedere – Interim Matron, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust
Margaret Wilkes – Clinical Nurse Specialist
Stacy Jordan – Clinical Nurse Specialist
Orlaith Healy – Clinical Nurse Specialist
Veronica Williams – Clinical Nurse Specialist
The Cavell Star Awards are awarded to Midwives, Healthcare Assistants, Nursing Associates, and General Nurses who show exceptional and extraordinary care to one of these groups listed. Their work colleagues, their patients, and the patients’ families and relatives.
The Lead Nurse for Mental Health Jodie Kirby – Owns submitted the nomination for the team and said.
“I nominated them for their excellence in care, for all ages of mental health patients that attend the acute setting. The team goes above and beyond to support mental health patients in always receiving appropriate care and treatment. They demonstrate compassion and care in practice for patients and colleagues continually. I am extremely proud of what the team has achieved with the ongoing national pressures for mental health currently.”
The Interim Matron at Walsall Healthcare Lee Evans and the Interim Matron at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust also known as Noel Chigwedere said “We are extremely proud and appreciative to have been awarded the Cavell Star.
“It’s nice to feel acknowledged and we are grateful for the support we have received from the top. Even after a difficult few years and current pressures it just goes to show that you can always achieve more.”
The award was presented by Group Chief Executive Professor David Loughton CBE.
He said: “I think this team is brilliant. Against all odds, they do fantastic work, day in and day out.
“Since the pandemic and now with the cost-of-living crisis, we are seeing even more demand for mental health services. Even with all of these pressures the team still delivers excellent care; they are so deserving of this award.”
