An NHS nursing couple decided it was time to tie the knot after winning a dream wedding competition over two whole years ago.
Greg Turner and Sarah Hunter finally found the chance to walk down the isle in Musselburgh, Scotland following the delay on their original plans due to the pandemic.
The two healthcare professionals had arranged to get hitched in February 2021 at the Eskmills Venue, but their plans were put on hold until last Friday when they were able to invite 121 guests without any restrictions in place.
The competition included a package prize to thank NHS workers with a luxury wedding budget of £12,000 as well as free use of the redeveloped riverside venue in Musselburgh.
Both of the couple were working on the frontline throughout the pandemic at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, with Sarah as a neonatal nurse and Greg as a nurse in the acute unit.

Having been together for nine years, the two nurses got engaged in 2019 and arranged for the wedding to be sooner when they won the competition in 2020, but plans were delayed soon as social distancing came into place.
With the package, they were able to receive free drinks, canapes, a live band, three course wedding meals, amongst various other hospitality services provided by local suppliers.
Sarah, the neonatal nurse of the two is expecting a baby in May and discussed her joy with the wedding, saying “It’s been a very long wait it has absolutely been worth it! We couldn’t have dreamt of a better way to celebrate than in such a beautiful location with our family and friends plus the amazing food and drinks and all the wonderful things provided by so many kind local businesses.
“The planning of the wedding was made easy by Eskmills’ expertise and we worked together to create the wedding that we envisioned when we got engaged all the way back in 2019. We couldn’t be happier.”
The Director of Client Services at Eskmills mentioned the purpose of the contest, saying “The competition was originally launched to say thank you to amazing NHS frontline staff who are doing such incredible and selfless work during the Covid-19 pandemic and Sarah and Greg are a great example of that.”
“We wish them all the very best in their married life together.”
