Healthcare professionals awarded in Queen’s Birthday Honours

The Queen’s Birthday Honour list for 2021 was released a few days ago, among those mentioned are the former Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland alongside dozens of other healthcare professionals who were officially recognised.
A total of 129 people were chosen for their exceptional achievements to the United Kingdom overseas or internationally, recognising those from a variety of different fields, including healthcare.
Scotland’s Chief Nursing Officer, Professor Fiona McQueen, was one of the individuals on the list, mentioned for her services to the NHS over the last five years before retiring earlier in March.
She was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) and described as “inspirational” during her time handling the Coronavirus pandemic.
Alongside Fiona on the list was Stormont’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Michael McBride, who will be receiving a knighthood for his services during his career and the pandemic.
After hearing he was on the list, he described his feeling saying, “it will continue to be tough in the months ahead and to have any contribution that I have made recognised in this way I feel honoured and I feel very, very privileged indeed.”
