Nursing home is bringing the beach to its residents!

This nursing home came first in a gardening competition after making a seaside inspired theme for their entry. Sharston House nursing home in Knutsford made sure its residents were beach body ready when they decided to flex their green fingers in the Kingsley national gardening contest, tossing aside their boring old spades and pitching a funky umbrella to stand out from other contestants.

The contest consisted of inviting all Kingsley Healthcare care homes to decorate their garden according to the chosen themes, ‘Beside the Seaside’ and ‘Reminiscence Garden’. It’s no shock as to what theme was the clear favourite as the Knutsford nursing home was able to collectively win the whopping £250 prize pool which they've decided to set it aside for future group outings and activities.

Stacey Hinton, the activities co-ordinator of the nursing home has mentioned how impressive and heart-warming it was to see ‘lots of volunteers kindly join in digging and planting, including children from St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School and members of Knutsford Lions Club’. She went on to later mention how grateful she was to B&Q in Northwich who generously donated a lot of plants to help create the garden.

Everyone played their part in this little group mission, a real team effort from all those involved. The children from St Vincent’s school painted fish and sea creatures at home during a craft session, and volunteers helped to paint a cart and an array of other beach related things.

Once everything was finished, the nursing home wrapped things up by throwing a nice sunny garden party and inviting all those involved along with their families. Hopefully we can look forward to seeing another garden competition next year round!
